Vietnam Veterans Memorial Collection. Cataloged artifacts, assisted with
collection management, moved and transported artifacts, and wrote cataloging
procedures. Used and took basic classes in Rediscovery (museum cataloging
software), DBASE III Plus, Windows, and Corel WordPerfect 7. Worked on the
exhibit of Vietnam Veterans Memorial Collection items now at the National
Museum of American History (Smithsonian Institution), and past exhibits at the
Museum of Our National Heritage in Lexington, MA (1994) Gerald R. Ford Museum
and Presidential Library, Grand Rapids, MI (1995), George Rogers Clark National
Historic Site, Vincennes, IN (1997), and the Colorado Historical Society,
Denver, CO (1997). Marked artifacts, often under tight
exhibition deadlines. Answered many questions about collection and
shared information with general public and members of the press. Outstanding
performance awards, 1990 to 1997 (every full year in which position was held).
Office manager for Combined Federal Campaign, Fall
1993. Worked on detail basis on museum collections at
Antietam National Battlefield (1997) and Mary McCleod

Art History Department, Mary Washington College,
College Avenue, Fredericksburg, VA 22401. Sept. 1989 to May 1990 (10 hours/week). Arranged, repaired,
and identified photographic slides used in class lectures. Identification
included translating Italian captions, using knowledge gained from Italian
class at same college.
Baltimore Museum
of Industry, 1415 Key Highway, Baltimore, MD 21230. June to August 1989 (20 hours/week) and 40 hours/week during June
1990. Had wide range of duties: maintenance, handling
of artifacts (including large Nineteenth-century machinery), demonstrations of
historic equipment, tours, and museum store operation.

James Monroe
Museum and Memorial Library, 508 Monroe Street, Fredericksburg, VA 22401. February to May 1990 (approx. 12 hours/week). College internship. Designed, procured materials for, and
installed several special exhibits of artifacts from Monroe's home and office. Used acid-free paper to protect archival materials. Received 3 semester hours credit.
Maryland Museum
of African Art, 5430 Vantage Point Road, Columbia, MD 21044. May to October 1993 and on occasions after that date. Volunteer gallery attendant. Referred museum curators to
Combined Federal Campaign for fundraising, 1995; museum is now a Combined Federal
Campaign charity.
EDUCATION
Graduated from Mary Washington College,
Fredericksburg, VA, May 12, 1990. Majored
in historic preservation. Total credits, 123 semester hours. Course work
included extensive writing. As part of major, completed National Register of
Historic Places nomination form for Level Green, a historic house in
Centreville, Virginia; form included a chain of title.
Took credit course in Beginning Typing, Howard
Community College, Columbia MD, Fall 1992.
Trained in
various computer applications at National Park Service position (details
above); also trained in dealing with the media (1994), public speaking (1995),
and grant proposal writing through the Foundation Center, Washington, DC
(1995).
